The clove tree is an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. Its buds can be used as spices and essential oils, and its scent is warm with a fruity spicy taste. The stems and leaves of the clove tree can also be used to extract essential oils, but the content of eugenol is higher than that of the flower buds.
The word clove comes from the Latin word "clavus", which means "nail", because the branches of clove and its head are shaped like ancient nails. Clove was one of the most precious spices in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries, and its value even exceeded gold. Since then, cloves have continued to be used in Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, Western herbalism and dentistry.
